Just an idea I've found successful in the past. Basically its an integrated database purely for pictures and write ups of your car and mods that people can browse or search easily and its like a forum add on, deffo worth taking a look

http://www.fusionscripts.com/ (http://www.fusionscripts.com/)

I've copied and pasted this next bit from my post on another forum:

TOO LATE TO EDIT MY POST: Meh... for some reason on the garage module download section its a broken link so instead you'll have to use:

http://code.google.com/p/fusionregistry/downloads/list (http://code.google.com/p/fusionregistry/downloads/list)

This allows you to add custom fields aswell which is cool cos as things progress you can add your own options in which is pretty funky for example value for money ratings or ease fitting etc. Its supposed to be easy to upload and doesn't take much effort but incase you struggle have a browse through:

http://code.google.com/p/fusionregistry/ (http://code.google.com/p/fusionregistry/)

and

http://code.google.com/p/fusionregistry/wiki/CustomFieldsFAQ (http://code.google.com/p/fusionregistry/wiki/CustomFieldsFAQ)

It's worth the effort guys, will only take one night to initiate and should further things while giving us all something to do and an opportunity to learn. Whenever I undertake projects from now on if there is a garage section I'll provide step by step photos and updates on what's involved and I suspect others would enjoy doing the same and helping peeps out whether its simple techniques, ice mods, exterior, interior, chassis or engine its very good!

I know its typical of more sort of owner clubesque sites but still, it would separate it from the rest and the beauty of it is it runs alongside the forum without causing a distraction. I first came across it back in my days on FEOC...

It was a link on the top bar alongside the messages, friends, controls, new posts tab etc and it was called "The Garage" and it was essentially a section that allowed you to add details on your car and mods or browse others, imagine it as a sort of car profile.

Now unfortunately I only have three screenshots. In the picture below you can see a few options on the left where you can browse or search through the garage - self explanitory. From there you can add or manage your vehicles, multiple if required but in my case there was only the escort. Below this you had a latest updated section which obviously gives you a quick reference to other peoples updates so you can keep an eye on recent progressions.... Anyway this first screenshot shows my car, a brief description, mileage, cost price, mods price etc and a quick reference thumbnail picture. There is the ability to manage the gallery, add mods or view vehicle info:

Below you can see how you broke it down into different sections within the modifications section where it showed details of chassis and handling, engine, interior mods etc, very basic layout showing what the mod is, whether there is a picture or not, how you would rate it and the sort of costs involved. If you clicked the link to each mod you could view a description of what it was, problems you came across when fitting it, what you think of the mod and would you recommend them.

This last pic shows the photo section which breaks things down to two sections, number one being the car itself and number two being the mods with a quick glance at the pics you can identify the mod and again, click the pic and it will link to more details.

Potentially you can write as much or as little about your car as you want but it brings a lot more discussions and influence to the forum and will give people ideas, walkthroughs and how to guides. It stops the forums being diluted and you can point others in that direction. Everyone controls the info, pics and updates on their own cars and it runs itself.

Just an idea :)

Oh wow, thats does look quite good. We were talking about having something like this, but couldn't seem to find any proper modules. I'm off today so will take a read through this now and see whether its a possibility or not. If it is it can replace the "Progress Threads" forum. Thanks Tilly :)

Ahhh shit. As cool and ideal as it is, its an add-on for the Invision Power Board forum. Won't work on vBulletin which is what we're using here :(

Any others you know of?

Its probably a good idea to keep progress threads so people can still have main forum discussions etc but the members car section could be replaced with this, it really makes things that little bit more interesting :)

I think from memory there's a "garage ports" tab on the main page of www.fusionscripts.com (http://www.fusionscripts.com)

The ports are for SMF and phpBB :(.

However a script which we found earlier has been updated

http://www.cnd-systems.com/cnd_garage.php

This is specificially for vBulleting, allows you to add car details, galaries, maintenance info and more importantly modifications with prices of them and stuff.

Its look quite good and feature packed. It's american but I'm sure you can change the currency it must be an option in the admin panel.

Take a look in the screenshots on the page that I've linked to and you can see how it works. What do you think? For only $35 I reckon its worth a punt...

It doesn't seem quite as clean and clear cut as the garage system but is on similar lines, it just seems a little... repetative? I cant explain what I mean by that but it has a sort of trapsing through fields look about it but at the same time I dont think its bad because it has other features like the quarter times and dyno runs etc. IT's better than nothing and I'm sure it can be adapted to suit easy enough :) Remove/add fields etc

With abit of cleaning up that one could work Saqib, however I cant beleive that someone has not posted up ob the VB forums about this, and that there is not something out there which does exactly what we want already?

I've searched the vb forum for garages and the ones that come up are the one that we've mentioned (cnd) and a free user created one called vbGarage. The problem with vbgarage is that as its user made updates are rare and in between and so there is not a version compatible with the latest version of vbulletin that we are using.

This is the problem with user generated add-ons, which is what the classifieds we are using. Therefore I am proposing we use a new classifieds system which costs but is constantly updated by the company that created it and always has support. I will tell you more about it on Saturday.

Regarding Cnd, I think I will purchase it and give it a punt now.

In the meantime, you can see all the vbulletin user generated add-ons/hacks compatible with vbulletin 3.8 available here:

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=235
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=236

Let me know if there are any that interest you which have not already been implemented and I will look into it.
